milano - art & technology
yes, a very very eminent artist & engineer & scientist, the genius leonardo da vinci (1452-1519), lived and worked in milano, 1482 to 1499.
it was there where he created one of his most famous paintings, from 1495 to 1498, the "last supper". its size is 4.6 x 8.8 m. it portrays jesus and the 12 apostels.
even though the painting's quality, now 500 years old, has suffered over time, it is nevertheless incredibly impressing to look at it and imagine its meaning.
quite a few copies have been made, the first ones already 1520, and many modern ones are available as well; one is shown below. these replicas are meant to demontrate how leonardo's work looked like originally.
finally - - - well, everyone who knows the creator of "pgtc" ~ picture galleries travels countries will be aware that this person is almost addicted to espresso coffee. and where have espresso machines been invented? yes, in milano! so it was indeed exciting to see all the early versions. and here is the earliest!
bye bye then from the milano essay - - of course with a strong espresso!
