GONDER
during the period from 1632 to about 1830 the kingdom situated in gonder was dominating ethiopia, and for some time its capital as well. this city is located north of the tana lake.
many buildings of the originally large castle area have survived, and some of them got partly renovated in recent time.
much later the "fasilides' bath" was built, some kind of fun palace which was located in the middle of an artificial pond, which sometimes got flooded. its nowadays surrounded by many strong trees.
gonder is also the place of a famous church, the debre birhan selassie church - famous for its architecture and famous for the inside paintings. it was built in the 17th century, and survived all wars in the following times.
