ADVENT MEXICO

Mexico city cartoon

because of my very restricted material: no galleries, just a mini-outlook, with selected pictures of my three visited cities, focused on mexico city.

ACAPULCO

there are more holiday visitors in acapulco than in the other coast cities. beside that, acapulco is also a big business place - and not the place for cozy beeches.....

Acapulco

MEXICO CITY

given its population, about 9 mio for the city and about 21 mio for "greater mexico city", it is one of the largest cities in the world.

the history of this city: it was created by the aztecs in 1325, built in the middle of (then) lake texcoco. this city, called tenochtitlan, was mostly destroyed by spanish 'crusaders' in 1521 and then rebuilt, on top of (ex-)tenochtitlan, following both the original setting and spanish urban concepts.

Mexico city historic map

soon mexico city became the head town on "new spain". not surprisingly, since then many enormous buildings were erected, such as the cathedral and the art center.

Palazio Belles Artes

yet the most stunning building is - in my view - the library of the university, the whole piece is like a huge painting, in traditional mexican style.

Library

given that under the current mexico city the ruins of the aztec's capital are, there is a lot of archaeology happening, and parts of historic buildings as well as statues have been found.

Mexico city excavations Mexico city excavations

after intense research about the aztec empire, archaeologists have eventually created a model of mighty tenochtitlan at it was in its prime time, including large temples - - and all this is just gone, in a way like famous babylon.....

Tenochtitlan

mexico is also a center of art, especially paintings. the biggest name is diego rivera, because of his stunning murals. yet meanwhile frida kahlo - a unique artist, suffering badly from injuries - is highly esteemed as well.

Frida Kahlo

of course mexico city is not just grand architecture and stunning art, it's also a 'down-to-earth' living place, and this includes any kind of shops and cafes and pubs!

PUEBLA

Puebla

this city was founded early in the spanish reign, 1531. it has a cathedral and many further churches, like this cute one. in the marked street, shops for clothes are common.

Puebla

Puebla

puebla is a core place for dresses, including big ones for dancing, all very colourful designs.

finally, music is a vital quality of mexican life. on public places bands, small ones or big ones, often in traditional dresses, perform every weekend, playing about everything from folklore to jazz -- i certainly enjoyed hearing, and seeing, this.
