OLINDA
for brazil, olinda is a 'small' city of about 400000 residents. it is situated at the atlantic coast about 40 km north of recife. olinda, founded 1535, is the second-oldest town of brazil. around 1600 it was for a few decades the center of a dutch colony in north-east brazil, but that didn't last.
olinda is a world heritage site. it has many large churches, more than recife, and special house architecture. art has always flourished, especially paintings. plus, the annual carnival festival is a huge event, focussed on costumes and on music.
