ARGENTINA - BUENOS AIRES - LA BOCA

this gallery is in preparation ... buenos aires, the capital of argentina, was founded 1536 by a spanish expedition. it is a very large city with about 3 million residents, and about 15 million in the metropolitan area. buenos aires is celebrated for its european style architecture and its very rich cultural life.
below is a preview of the most famous and most colourful suburb, la boca. between 1870 and 1920, it was the main harbour, and millions of immigrants to argentina arrived there, including many italians from genova. the pedestrian street 'caminito" features much of la boca’s highlights, such as colored wood-and-corrugated-steel built houses, art galleries, restaurants & bars, and street-performed tango shows.
the exceptional argentinian tango, which is both a music style and a dance style, originated around 1880 in pubs and brothels in the area of rio de la plata, and la boca was a main place. the bandoneon became the leading instrument for tango music. the most renowned argentinian composer, astor piazzolla, created tangos all his life.
la boca is unique, different to other parts of buenos aires, and visiting it is almost a time travel ...
