TAHITI
tahiti is a small island in the south pacific ocean, and is part of the society islands. it has 190000 residents. its capital is papeete. nearby, to the west, is the island moorea. both have high mountains, up to 2200 m.
the airport of papeete is widely used as transport hub. i visited the islands in 1989, and briefly in 2005 (on my way from chile, then rapa nui, to australia). the society islands belong to french polynesia.
