as one would expect, switzerland has lots of castles! most were built as defence structures in the first place - yet over the centuries many became elaborate residences for all sorts of people who had either power or money or both ... the fortifications are now great-looking decorations, and grand chimneys may serve the central-heating system ... many of these 'castles' have beautiful gardens or parks as well ... oberhofen castle, a few km's east of thun, is a particularly picturesque example, as you can see here!
