SWITZERLAND

the country switzerland is located in the alpine region of europe, surrounded by france, germany, austria and italy. its capital is bern, its largest city zuerich. population: 8.6 mio.
switzerland is genuinely multi-cultural because there are four national languages: german (63%), french (23%), italian (8%), and "romansh (1%); 5% speak other languages.
the country was founded in 1291 as a confederation of counties (called cantons). it is generally seen as the oldest democracy. switzerland was always independent and stayed strictly neutral during ww-1 and ww-2.
the amount of great towns and terrific landscapes in this country is almost overwhelming for a visitor. i have travelled there about a dozen times, from 1968 to 2013 - not enough though, perhaps?
