BIEL / BIENNE

biel is the largest town at the lake of the same name in western switzerland ... it seems to have even more historic fountains than other swiss towns ... most fountains have a decorated column in the middle on which a more or less pompous figure is placed - the two main types are a male knight and a female 'justitia' ... my favorite is a most colorful fountain which features an angel and a devil together with a lamb (the symbol of innocence) - well we know who will win, don't we?
