one of the
best-known buildings in moscow is the famous basilius cathedral, situated on the
red square beside the kreml.
the first picture
shows it in winter, covered with some snow.
it was erected by szar ivan iv (called "the
terrible"), 1550-1560. the building has 9 towers, all of different design. they
are based on a complex and quite ingenious plan, consisting of a central church
and two sets of appended churches, 4 octogonal and 4 circular ones. all parts
of the cathedral are colorfully painted, especially the striking towers. the
building's doors and windows show excellent handicraft features.
altogether, this amazing building is
absolutely beautiful!
