oman also is the land of castles ... as the historic painting shows, they used to sit on about every hill around settlements, and on islands near harbours as well ... some are just little fortifications, others huge structures, often converted into palaces in more recent times ... the country is proud of them, and many have been carefully restored ... here are a few vistas!
