hard to believe that one of the most notorious pirates in history, henry morgan, ruled here! and, by the way, (later-to-become-a-very-famous-admiral) nelson served at port royal, the then capital of jamaica ... yet in 1692 port royal was hit by a terrible earthquake, which destroyed much of the harbour and fortifications and ended its glorious times … so the final view from jamaica is appropriately a gravestone!
