the island of jamaica is one of the larger ones in the caribbean see between north and south america.
it is inhabited for at least 2000 years. from 1500 to 1655 it belonged to the spanish, then to th british empire. both "imported" lots of slaves from africa, to work on the many large farms. jamaica became independent in 1962. its capital is kingston, and the population 2.7 mio. i visited jamaica in 2000.
