by the way, mannheim has an absolutely unique street naming system - in fact, there are no street names, the blocks are labeled (in a checkerboard fashion), and the set-up is linked to the central axis which runs from the castle to the neckar bridge (the other main axis links the water tower and the rhine bridge). have a look at the map and you can work out how the names are organized ... another oddity is that the historic church and the old townhall have a shared tower - an idea which was picked up in the city's modern "stadthaus" ... finally, for my friends in 'marvellous melbourne': yes, our trams are marvellous, but also (as we all know) hopelessly outdated - so, if you have never seen a contemporary tram, here is one!
