i used to live and work in mannheim; i am still an adjunct professor at the university there and returned regularly for lecturing ... the following map (width: ~100 km) shows the location in south-west germany. nearby cities of interest are marked with a red sign).
last time i collected a few digital pics, eventually ... mannheim is located where the river neckar goes into the rhine, and it grew around a (very large) castle, now housing the university ... but mannheims 'icon' is the famous watertower, surrounded by some lovely "jugendstil" buildings ...
