ADVENT RIO DE JANEIRO
given my restricted material (parts of it got lost because of a computer crash), here is a compact outlook for the grand city rio de janeiro.
rio de janeiro was founded 1565 by the portuguese, and was for centuries a capital city. nowadays it is neither brazil's largest city (that's sao paulo), nor its capital anymore - yet still the by far most popular one.
it is located at the southern atlantic ocean, its current population is 6.2 mio.
rio is crowded with any kind of "sightseeing" features and a huge variety of culture, thus by far the "number 1" place for all visitors of brazil.
SIGHTSEEING
the most impressive view on classical rio is available from the sugarloaf mountain; one can get on top of it with a cable car.
BEACHES
rio has four large beaches, and these are always crowded.
CULTURE
to outline rio's culture would be an essay by itself! so here is just one main facility.
CHURCHES
rio has of course lots of grand churches and cathedrals, mostly built in the portuguese time.
and there is also a very large cathedral in modern architecture.
MUSIC
again - to outline rio's immense music scene would be an essay by itself! so here are just a few musicians.
PEOPLE
in portuguese times, rio was the main target for millions of 'slaves' from africa. these are, as much as the original portugese settlers, .essential for brazil's population. interestingly, rio de janeiro is considered the largest "portuguese city" outside portugal.
below you can see all sorts of people. by the way, in spite of brazil's strong religious orientation, at the beaches to be 'half-naked' and fully naked is very common. btw, the "tanga" was invented in rio! the ones shown here are designed in brazil's flag colours.
CAFES
lots, lots, lots.....
at the end of my "rio" gallery, here are the very colourful "selaron steps". they are a 'must-visit' feature, for good reasons!
so - is rio de janeiro worth a visit? absolutely, in my view, the richness of architecture, culture and the mighty music multifoldness are indeed stunning.
