FALKLAND & SOUTH GEORGIA ISLANDS
the falkland islands and the south
georgia islands are both "british overseas territories"
since 1833 and 1775, respectively. both are claimed by
argentina for a long time, yet to no avail.
falkland has about 3000 citizen, of which around 2/3 have
british background. south georgia has no permanent
population, except of about 30 british officers and
researchers.
these two island groups are not part of the antarctica
continent, yet features of their fauna and flora remind of
it, and especially south georgia is comparable to the
antarctic peninsula.
